Bad Boys 4 Reportedly Paused Following Will Smith Oscars Slap Incident
Bad Boys 4 is reportedly stopped following Will Smith hitting comedian Chris Rock over a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith at the 2022 Oscars ceremony.
Filming for Bad Boys 4 has been put on hold after Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars. Rock made a joke on Jada Pinkett Smith’s Oscars attire, comparing it to Demi Moore’s GI Jane, before presenting the prize for Best Documentary Feature to Questlove’s Summer of Soul. After Smith saw his wife’s reaction, the crowd considered the situation amusing, but he didn’t. It was during the live broadcast that the actor appeared and slapped Rock in the face twice and urged him to keep his wife’s name out of his mouth.
After Smith assaulted Rock, many viewers were shocked that he was not hauled out of the Dolby Theatre, and many were turned off by his acceptance speech for Best Actor less than an hour later. After Rock was slapped, The Academy launched an official investigation into the matter, but Rock refused to press charges. It was the next day when Smith issued an apology on social media and announced his resignation from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
The Oscars slap has been the subject of several updates in the last week, and it now appears that Smith’s actions are affecting his future endeavors. As a result of Smith’s Oscars incident with Rock, production on Bad Boys 4 has been put on hold, according to THR. It’s unclear if Smith’s resignation from the Academy announced the same day as this development, will help restart production on the film.
Bad Boys 2 was released 17 years before Bad Boys for Life. Bad Boys for Life had generally positive reviews and was one of the top-grossing movies of 2020 thanks to its release before the start of COVID-19. A sequel, titled Bad Boys 4, was announced by Sony Pictures Entertainment not long after the first film’s release date. In May 2020, Jerry Bruckheimer, the film’s producer, said that the script was being written. According to THR, Smith has been handed 40 pages of the Bad Boys 4 script to read since the last time we heard from him.
In spite of the fact that Rock’s joke was offensive in light of Pinkett Smith’s battle with alopecia, most people would agree that Smith injuring Rock physically was not the wisest move. The outburst could have had an impact on Smith’s career, but nothing had been said about it up until this point. As a result of Smith’s punishment, it is possible that Bad Boys 4 development will resume.
