‘Black Adam’: Everything We Know So Far About Release Date, Cast, Filming Details & More
It took a long time, but Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson‘s long-awaited debut in the DC Extended Universe is finally on track to hit theatres. Black Adam is a spinoff and sequel to the 2019 movie Shazam! It stars the wrestling legend and actor as the antihero of the same name. Since the early 2000s, people have been working on the movie, and now it’s almost ready to be shown in theatres. Black Adam, who is as strong as Superman, was the first person to fight for Shazam. But unlike Zachary Levi’s hero character, Adam’s sense of right and wrong is often a bit more… flexible? In Black Adam, the main character comes back to the real world after being locked up in a magical prison for a long time. We can only guess what kind of terrible revenge he has planned for the world.
Jaume Collet-Serra is in charge of Black Adam. He was also in charge of Johnson’s new Disney movie, Jungle Cruise. The story for the movie was written by Adam Sztykiel, Rory Haines, and Sohrab Noshirvani. Along with Adam, the movie will have a number of well-known Justice Society of America characters, making it a must-see for DC fans. We’ve put together everything we know about Black Adam so far, from the plot and cast to updates on filming and release dates, to help you get ready for this exciting new DCEU film.
Note from the editor: This article was changed on June 9, 2022, to add the trailer and the new release date.
The first episode of Black Adam is set to air in the United States on October 21, 2022. The movie was supposed to come out on December 22, 2021, but because of the COVID-19 pandemic, that date had to be changed. The movie’s release date was pushed back to July 29, 2022, but the current date was chosen in the end.
Black Adam’s Cast?
Noah Centineo, Aldis Hodge, Sarah Shahi, Quintessa Swindell, and Pierce Brosnan will all play classic DC characters in Black Adam. Dwayne Johnson will also be in the movie. Marwan Kenzari, James Cusati-Moyer, Bodhi Sabongui, Mo Amer, and Uli Latukefu are also in the cast, but their roles haven’t been revealed yet.
Even though Black Adam is related to Shazam!, Levi and Asher Angel will not be playing Shazam and Billy Batson again. That’s good, though, because it looks like the movie will have more superheroes than it should.
Characters in Black Adam?
The movie’s main character is, of course, Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam. Adam is a brave and heroic person who was born as a slave in the country of Kahndaq. His name at birth was Teth-Adam. But even though he has good intentions, he is a cruel warrior who will kill anyone who gets in his way.
Shahi will also play Adrianna Tomaz, a university professor and resistance fighter in Kahndaq, in the movie. She will play Adam, too. In the comics, Adrianna becomes Isis, a superhero, and marries Black Adam. She is the one who keeps Adam from being too violent and pushes him in more heroic directions. We’ll have to wait and see if the character follows a similar path in the movie.
The Justice Society of America, a group of superheroes from different eras that came before the Justice League, will also be in Black Adam. In the comics, there were a lot of heroes in the JSA, including Adam. However, only a few of them will be in the movie.
Centineo will play Atom Smasher, a member of the Justice Society of America who can change his size and weight. In Season 2 of The Flash, Adam Copeland played a version of the role.
Hodge will play the Hawkman character. Hawkman is the leader of the JSA. He is the reincarnation of a prince from ancient Egypt. In this life, he is an archaeologist with wings made of Nth metal, which is an alien material. Hawkman is a well-known character who has been in comics, cartoons, and real-life movies. On Smallville, Michael Shanks played the role, and on The CW’s Arrowverse, Falk Hentschel did.
Swindell plays Cyclone, another member of the JSA. She is the daughter of the first Red Tornado’s granddaughter. Cyclone can control the wind and the sound. Hawkgirl was supposed to take her place on the team, but the character was cut from the movie in the end.
Pierce Brosnan is the last member of the JSA in the movie. He plays Kent Nelson/Doctor Fate. The Helmet of Fate chose Nelson, the son of an archaeologist, to become a magical superhero and protect the world from the forces of chaos. Doctor Fate came out 23 years before Doctor Strange, so he isn’t a copy of Marvel’s Sorcerer Supreme. The character was played by Brent Stait on the show Smallville, and animated versions of the character have been in a lot of DC shows and games.
Intergang, a group of criminals from around the world, will also be in the movie. Also, Bodhi Sabongui will reportedly play a key character from the Black Adam comics that hasn’t been named yet.
What Is Black Adam’s Story?
During Adam’s time, Kahndaq was a cruel country that forced some of its people to work as slaves by using magic and sorcery. But when Adam became the Champion, he used his power to free his people and become the king of Kahndaq.
Adam used to be a hero, but when his family was killed, he turned to evil and accidentally let the Seven Deadly Sins demons out into the world. He was then sent to prison for his crimes, and Black Adam will see him come out of prison after 5000 years, ready to restore Kahndaq to its former glory.
No one knows yet how the movie is related to Shazam! But if the Wizard dies, Adam might be able to get out of his prison. Even though the movie’s plot hasn’t been made public yet, it’s likely that Black Adam will try to rebuild his kingdom. This could make the JSA fight against him, which could lead to a fight between Adam and the superheroes. Considering how these stories usually go, there will probably be a bigger threat that forces the heroes to work together to save the world.
