Before we get to the bad news, let’s just say that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is No. 1 for the third week in a row and probably will be for the next two weeks as well. The total is now $367.6 million after making another $45.9 million over the weekend and $64 million over the five-day holiday. After 17 days, that is the 18th best total for a movie ever. Even though it wants to add to its total, take a moment to remember what we said about its long-term prospects last week. With $393.3 million, Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast in 2017 had the lowest 17-day gross to reach $500 million that didn’t involve James Cameron. Even if Wakanda beats Beauty and the Beast’s second weekend gross of $45.4 million, it is still about $26 million behind. Next weekend, attendance is likely to drop pretty sharply, and Wakanda would need to make almost $431 million to keep up with Beauty and the Beast. As expected, Wakanda is looking a lot more like Avengers: Age of Ultron, which had $372 million after 17 days and $38.8 million in its third weekend. Ultron made a total of $459 million, and Wakanda could make about $5 million more or less than that.
