Depp vs Heard: A winner with the jury and the wider court of public opinion
The actor won big in a Virginia court after a six-week trial. Fans cheered as the verdicts were read.
Fans of Johnny Depp came from all over the United States and other countries to be outside the Fairfax County Courthouse.
As the verdicts were read out, most of them were in favor of Depp. This made the crowd cheer. Some people were wearing pirate hats, which was a reference to Johnny Depp’s role as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean. Others had made signs that said, “We love Johnny.”
During the six-week trial, everyone agreed that his account of what happened was more likely to be true than Amber Heard’s.
Not only did the jury like him, but so did the rest of the public.
Some of his fans spent a lot of money to go to court to show their support, but Depp was in Newcastle getting ready to play with rock musician Jeff Beck.
As Judge Penney Azcarate read out the jury’s verdicts in court, Amber Heard looked sad and defeated as she heard she would have to pay her ex-husband $15 million in damages, which was later reduced to just over $10 million due to legal limits in the state of Virginia.
Heard left court through a back door, and Depp fans who had been outside court for most of the trial booed loudly. Depp’s lawyers, on the other hand, smiled and hugged each other before heading outside to give a statement to media cameras.
amille Vasquez is one of Depp’s lawyers, and her tough questions to Heard during the trial have made her a hit on the internet.
She said that the verdict was proof that her client was right.
“This proves what we’ve been saying from the start,” she said, “that the accusations against Johnny Depp are false and not backed up by any proof.”
Heard did win one of her counterclaims. She was given $2 million for defamation after Depp’s lawyer, Adam Waldman, said that Heard and her friends made up her story about a fight with Depp.
Mr. Waldman said it was a lie and a trick. But it was just a small win in Depp’s big victory.
